Yoga Juice, the Beginning

5,793 post views

A yogic lifestyle focuses on much more than just asanas, breathing, and meditation. Nutrition is a key element of balancing out a yogic life. Living in a McWorld filled with horribly delicious, hot and ready food options is hard enough, but creating the time to eat right is REALLY a challenge.  I, an avid fan of the Western diet, have realized that I need to make some changes if I want to stay true to the yogic lifestyle that I aspire to create for myself. That my friends is why I recently jumped into the exciting world of juicing.

I am going to post a series of blogs based on my personal juice nutrition experiences. I will share the full details of my Yoga Juicing with you all and hopefully you will share your Yoga Juicing experiences with me. Lets grow together and Juice it up!

Today I decided to do a Juice fasting for a 24 hour period. Side note: One should never fast without the consent of their doctor. I started my morning with two glasses of Roiboos Tea and then moved onto this delicious concoction for lunch.

Marcus’ Wanna-Be V8

4 Ripe Red Tomatoes

6 Carrots (large)

4 Sticks of Celery

1 Clove Garlic

Sprinkle of Pepper

All thrown into a juicer and shaken over ice. It was a fair attempt to replicate my favorite canned treat, V8.  I did not feel overly satisfied by the juice, but with the help of two glasses of water I was able to make it through for a few hours.

For dinner I wanted to mix it up and add a fair amount of sweetness to my juice. In the juicer I added the following items:

Marcus’ Fresh & Fruity

2 Cups of Fresh Blueberries

1 Cup of Fresh Raspberries

1 Cucumber (large)

2 Carrots (large)

This turned out to be pretty decent. The cucumber was surprisingly juicy and the taste was nice. I will tweak it a little bit next time, but it met my needs.

What I’ve learned from just one day of juicing is that my body really responds better when I make healthier choices. Which isn’t that what Yoga is all about making better choices and using our bodies to accomplish great things? Another astounding aspect that was an effect of today’s juicing was I craved water and tea all day long. This is amazing, considering I usually crave less than healthy alternatives.

The future Yoga Juice articles will not be this long, but I wanted to share with you, my readers what’s going on with my life and to share the exciting art of juicing. I really look forward to hearing back from all of you. Share your favorite recipes too if you get a chance.
