Celebrate the victory of being alive! There is a saying in ancient sanskrit language, ‘Jai Bhagwan’ which translates to blessed victory. The word ‘Jai’ means victory while ‘Bhagwan” means blessed. To possess fortunes is to be blessed with the gift of life. These are not material wealths but the wealth of health and happiness. Many yogis will shorten this phrase to just the word ‘Jai’ to celebrate the victory of completing a yoga class together. There is a yoga posture that is known as Goddess Pose or Victory Pose.

This posture is great to strengthen the body. This is the pose of a true victor! It strengthens the entire lower body including your glutes, hips, thighs, calves, and ankles. It opens your hips, chest, and elongates your spine all the way from your tailbone to crown of your head. This yoga pose is incredible for balance and grounding strength.

The sanskrit name for this yoga posture is ‘Utkata Konasana’. If you want to celebrate the victory of life through this amazing posture here is a guide on how to do it…

  1. Begin standing in Mountain Pose (Tadasana) at the top of your mat with your arms at your sides. Bring your hands to rest comfortably on your hips.
  2. Turn to the right and step your feet wide apart, about four feet. Turn your toes out slightly, so they point to the corners of your mat.
  3. On an exhalation, bend your knees directly over your toes and lower your hips into a squat. Work toward bringing your thighs parallel to the floor, but do not force yourself into the squat.
  4. Extend your arms out to the sides at shoulder-height with your palms facing down. Then, spiral your thumbs up toward the ceiling, so your palms face forward. Bend your elbows and point your fingertips toward the ceiling; your upper arms and forearms should be at a 90-degree angle.
  5. Tuck your tailbone in slightly and press your hips forward as you draw your thighs back. Keep your knees in line with your toes. Soften your shoulders. Gaze softly at the horizon.
  6. Hold for up to 10 breaths. To release, slowly return your hands to your hips. Keeping your spine upright, inhale as you press firmly into your feet and straighten your legs. Step your feet together and come back to the top of your mat in Mountain Pose.

Practice this posture and embrace your inner power! Celebrate the victory of waking up another day and chasing your dreams! Life’s goal is the journey, they are not separate. We can compare this to the life of a butterfly, to truly admire the beauty of a butterfly we must first admire its journey. Celebrate the journey of life not just the end goal because it will always be the journey that brought you to your end goal. Jai Bhagwan!
