The Shala

In 2002, Kristin Leigh and Barbara Verrochi founded The Shala, which means home or abode in Sanskrit, to create a place and community where-—in the chaos of New York City life–people could practice yoga, breathe, and be at home in their bodies.Classes at The Shala are a challenging, thoughtful blend of asana, chanting, and meditation. Teachers focus on intelligent sequencing in a vinyasa-style format, emphasizing the connection between breath and movement from asana to asana. This practice builds strength and flexibility in the body and steadiness in the mind.
