OM is the supreme and most sacred syllable, consisting of three Sanskrit sounds, (a), (u), and (m). The (a) and the (u) join together to create an (o) sound. OM is pronounced as a long nasalized close-mid back rounded vowel.
It is said to be the greatest of all Mantras. OM or AUM is the most recognized sound in yoga. It has several different spellings and symbols that represent it. It has sacred and mystical origins based in many religions such as, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Jainism.
In a Yoga Class OM is often chanted to bring oneness to the group. It is the sound of the universe and brings awareness to the rhythmic vibrations that exist in all things. Add OM to your chanting practices and feel the peace of the universe.
