Yoga is the recognition and uncovering of who we already are. If we invite everything into awareness, awareness will change and transform. Yoga is about knowing or doing something you weren’t able to do yesterday. Viniyoga is the ideal style of yoga for pre- or postoperative. For those who are dealing with injuries and or chronic illness and pain. Or for those who want to deepen their practice. Viniyoga is about adapting the asanas (poses) for each individuals needs. It allows each person to become aware of and then care for their own bodies. Sensation awakens wherever the attention goes, bringing circulation, oxygen, and prana (life force) to the areas of the body that need it. By strengthening and stretching, different areas of the body become more stable and ultimately healthier. By using the breath to learn to calm the body and create the relaxation response, we become less reactive to stress and able to respond appropriately and come back to feeling calm and relaxed sooner. Bhavana (visualization) techniques help focus the mind on what we want not what we don’t want. Meditation helps us clear the mind and focus on positive thoughts. Thus we develop skills for self healing. I am currently teaching at Yoga Blend in Burbank and El Caballero Country Club, as well as privates in house.
