Awwwhhhhoooooooooo! I salute to the moon. As it orbits the Earth each day it reflects pieces of itself with the Sun’s bright light. A full moon is a sight to see! This beauty is worth saluting for being Earth’s single night light. Yoga offers you a great way to feel great before you sleep under the moon at night. When you stretch before getting into bed, you experience a deep and comfortable sleep.

Here are the steps to Salute the Moon…

  1. Start standing on your mat with you feet at hips distance grounding down. Bring your palms together at heart center. Inhale as you lift your palms together overhead. Exhale and interlace the fingers leaving the pointer and thumb pointing out.
  2. Inhale as you shift your hips slightly to the left and begin to exhale and arch your extended upper body to the right. Keep the chest lifted and open. Inhale as you bring your body back to center as you keep your upper body extended. Exhale and shift the hips to the right as you arch the upper body over to the left side. Inhale come back to center.
  3. Exhale as you step the feet out wide and turn the feet out slightly. Inhale. Exhale, bend the knees and bring the arms out to the sides palms facing inward and elbows bent. Inhale, press the tailbone down then exhale.
  4. Inhale, straighten the knees and bring the arms stretched out to the sides at shoulder height palms faced down. Exhale as you reach over to the right side with your left arm overhead as the right slides down the right leg. Inhale as you come back to center and brings both arms back to shoulder height. Exhale as you arch over to the left with the right hand overhead and the left hand slides down the left leg. Inhale come back to center.
  5. Exhale as you rotate the hips and shoulders and reach the right hand down to the left foot allowing the left arm to lift behind you. Inhale back to center. Exhale as you rotate the hips and shoulders and reach the left hand down to the right foot allowing the right hand to lift behind you. Inhale come back to center.
  6. Exhale, turn the feet slightly pointed out and bend into the knees as you bend the elbows of each arm to allow the palms to face inward once more. Inhale, straighten the legs and step the feet back to a hips distance apart on the mat. Exhale, reach the arms up as your palms meet overhead. Inhale as you shift the hips to the right and begin to arch the arms overhead towards the left side. Exhale come back to center. Inhale the hips shift out to the left as you arch your arms overhead to the right. Exhale come back to center.
  7. Inhale, slide the palms down to heart center. Exhale deeply.
