Learn from the Past

Life takes us down many turns in every direction. Each new direction and turn is another lesson learned. Life consists of constant lessons and an abundance of knowledge. It is natural to be a hands on learner and to try things in order to understand how life works. History can teach us a lot about ourselves as human beings. When we learn about the past we can understands lessons other people have lived through. When I started learning about ancient sanskrit and spiritual philosophy behind this practice we call yoga, I started to learn more about myself.

Yoga is an ancient tradition filled with trial and error. We try in order to learn. There are many lessons that can be learned from the past. The lives that other people lived are connected to the life that we live. Yoga is to unite. Uniting the past with the present can teach us about ourselves, where we came from, and where we will go. As much as the lesson yoga teaches us to live in the present moment, we must also understand what consists in the past.

The past can be used as a teacher when we focus ourselves into the present moment. The past can be an ancient lesson taught through a family of generations. Similar to a family recipe passed down to each generation only to be learned by the next and with built in appreciation. Just as we age, the beings before us have done the same. This constant spiral of time continuously teaching generation by generation. Each pattern eventually finds a way of repeating itself into the present moment.

We read and research a variety of information on a daily basis. If it wasn’t for the people before us having the same thoughts and putting their own research into that topic, we wouldn’t have the option to study their results of that topic. In this day of age, we have an unlimited resource of information on the internet. We can literally learn anything by typing it into a search and studying it. We can build anything we want with the information available. Learn from the past in order to live in the present and create the future you want out of life!
