A new trend that seems to be popping up in yoga studios across the country is laughing. We all know that laughter is good for the soul, but a few studies have shown that a few laughs can really improve your well-being. As seen on the Oprah Winfrey Show and CNN, Laughter Yoga is revolutionizing the industry.
The method was created in 1995 by Dr. Madan Kataria. Knowing the benefits of laughter he pooled a group of students together in Mumbai, India to observe the connection between laughter and overall health. During the study he discovered that mimicking laughter sounds offered up the same benefits as actual laughter. And that is how Laughter Yoga was created. During the class one would chant HO HO HO and HA HA HA which would often lead to the real act of laughter.
Laughter Yoga also incorporates lite stretching and deep breathing. Medical research has proven that laughter releases endorphins and reduces stress. Check out your local studios and you might be able to catch a laugh at a studio near you!
