Experience 30 years of excellence at IYISF, Northern California’s regional Iyengar yoga center. Our mission is to study, teach, disseminate and promote the art, science and philosophy of Yoga according to the teachings of BKS Iyengar and to foster a flourishing yoga community. Iyengar yoga emphasizes the integration of body, mind and spirit through the development of strength, stamina, flexibility, balance, concentration and meditation. Fostering depth in practice since 1974, IYISF offers daily classes, including Introductory, Back Care, Senior Classes taught by experienced, certified teachers in fully equipped studios. Students learn how to align the body in asanas in an anatomically intelligent way to avoid injury, the benefits and effects of yogasanas (postures) and pranayamas (breath control), the use of props to individualize poses and correctly position the body in the asanas, and the art of sequencing and timing asanas to achieve different effects on the mind and body (relaxation, stimulation, therapeutics for particular conditions). Workshops and retreats feature local and visiting faculty for in-depth sessions on asana and pranayama, Anatomy for Practitioners and Teachers, Yoga for Pregnancy, Restorative Yoga, Therapeutics, and Philosophy. Home to the oldest Iyengar yoga teacher training program in the US, IYISF offers 200/500-hour state accredited degree programs. Distinguished faculty.
